What to see in Syracuse

Syracuse is a famous historical town-port, surrounded by sea, with a heart — marvelous shining rose-cream tone baroque Duomo square. The town has a great history from ancient ages, you can feel its spirit in every meter of old town — Ortigia, and can enjoy elegance in every detail.

 

 

Main sights

• Ortigia — an ancient part of Syracuse, historical center
  • Duomo — and with square whole — a baroque gem
  • Fountain of Arethusa— Greek mythological landmark of Siracuse
  • Maniace castle 08:30 to 18:00
  • Beach — a free urban rocky beach in Ortigia, nearby Maniace hotel. If you would like to enjoy the sea too, then it’s better to stay for vacation on a good beach in neighborhood and visit Syracuse for one-two days.
• Archeological Park Neapolis — a great Syracuse archeological site, 8:30 to 19:30, 18:00 last entry
• Latomia dei Cappuccini — quarries of Syracuse

 

 

Neighborhood of Syracuse

• Cavagrande del Cassibile — a spectacular canyon with a river, there is a famous water springs in this area. You can enjoy swimming in the river(to walk down — about one hour, to ascent — two hours (1700 m long), strongly recommend to wear proper track shoes. Opens 7:00 to 20,00, after rains for 2-3 days closed. Best time for visit when it’s not so hot — till 9:00 and after 16:30 cavagrandedelcassibile.it
• Noto — shining and cute warm-yellow tone baroque town, nearby (5 km) splendid sand beaches with shallow water. If you would like to enjoy the sea, you can stay here and by car to explorer all sites. (38 km, 35 min from Syracuse)
• Ragusa — picturesque medieval town on the hill
• Modica — like Ragusa, just more cute
